Blue Star Banner

Palatine Township honors our military families> authorized family members who have supported our nation’s service members

Launched at the Township in June of 2011, under the Direction of Clerk Lisa Moran, the Blue Star Banner Program provides an opportunity to show community support to the family members of those currently serving on Active Duty in U.S. Armed Forces (including the National Guard and Reserves.)

The Blue Star Banner is to be displayed in the window of an authorized family member to let the community know that someone in the home is proudly serving our country.

The authorized family member (recipient) is invited to a designated Township Board Meeting for a special Blue Star Banner Presentation.  The Presentation will include:

– a special Township Resolution passed by the Board honoring them for their service in supporting their family member serving our nation, and presented to them; a slideshow of the service member’s life and military service, with brief bio and pictures; a special informational folder relating to community services for military families and veterans

– their respective mayor will also attend (schedule permitting) and honor them with a Certificate of Recognition from their Village/Town/City;  their respective legislators will also be invited to attend and present their special certificates, etc. (schedule permitting)

-commemorative cake and coffee will be served afterwards and enjoyed with the Board and any invited family/guests

After the Presentation evening, an article in the Township newsletter and social media posts to follow (after signed photo release) ; and keepsake photos sent to family

Here’s a great video on the Banner’s history:
