Youth Hunger Opposition in Palatine (YHOP) was conceived by a Fremd High School student, Kellie Kinsella in 2007. The current YHOP Director for 2017 – 18 is Jamie Henning.

YHOP is an organization comprised of students from Fremd and Palatine High Schools, and area church youth groups working together for a common goal of establishing and building an ongoing dedicated account to generate funding for the Palatine Township Food Pantry. This community-wide effort is comprised of support from generous private donors, businesses, churches, school activities, dinner dances and other special events.  “There are too many families in this area who struggle to feed their children,” said Kellie Kinsella.  “We want to make a material difference, eliminating cyclical shortages, while also giving the Township the ability to plan and expand the Township Food Pantry for the future.” The Township uses the YHOP Fund, restricted for the Food Pantry, to reduce cash shortages, delve into expansion opportunities, and provide food without interruption for the over 356 families served every month.

Cash beats cans. Every dollar donated translates into $5.00. Because the Township is affiliated with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the buying power is increased.

Every year a new YHOP Director is chosen.  YHOP continues to dedicate their efforts to fundraising to fulfill their mission. The Township Food Pantry Advisory Committee has met for the past year and will continue to meet to assess and measure our community needs and vision the Food Pantry’s future role.
