Director of Community Programs & Grants – Full Time Exempt

The Director serves as the Township’s primary professional for community funding initiatives, supporting the Township Board and Community Mental Health Board (CMHB) through grant administration, compliance oversight, program evaluation, and implementation of approved funding priorities. This position promotes responsible stewardship of public resources while advancing partnerships, assessing community needs, and supporting effective human service programs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of grant administration, contract management, compliance monitoring, and program evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships with providers, community organizations, government agencies, and elected officials
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and administrative systems
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license; ability to attend occasional evening meetings and community events
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods of time

Credentials & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, social work, human services, nonprofit management, behavioral health, or related field (master’s preferred)
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in grant administration, program management, public or nonprofit administration, or human services
  • Experience with local government, public funding programs, or community-based services preferred

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administer Township Human Needs and CMHB grant programs, including funding cycles, applications, agreements, and reporting
  • Monitor provider performance, compliance, and program outcomes; ensure fiscal accountability and contract adherence
  • Conduct needs assessments, service-gap analysis, and program evaluation to inform funding priorities
  • Support budgeting, strategic planning, funding recommendations, and annual reporting
  • Provide administrative support to CMHB operations, meetings, and required compliance processes
  • Maintain partnerships with providers, community organizations, and government agencies
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for the Township Board and CMHB
  • Represent the Township and CMHB at meetings, events, and community initiatives
